When I thought about donating eggs I read that I could only do it 4 times. This limited the amount of “children” that would be produced by me and limit the chances of my offspring from getting together. Granted 4 donations does not mean 4 babies. Many eggs can be harvested each time (around 30 or so).

Well if someone has over 70 kids spread across the country, there’s a small chance they could meet up and procreate. It’s a small chance, but it’s possible.
What’s more disturbing, however, is that if they continue to use very specific people’s sperm countless times, it spreads their genetics exponentially. If it got out of control, the gene pool could slowly thin out and who knows what might happen? (Worst case scenario something similar to “Children of Men”).

@MadMachinima When you hear about those cases where the mother and child are able to track down the father to get child support, it doesn’t seem unlikely for that information to go both ways.

I really don’t think this is a big deal. From my knowledge, genetic defects due to incest can only occur with full siblings who have identical heritage (same mother&father), half siblings and cousins should not be at a great risk.

As a geneticist… I don’t see why this is an issue.

Genetic inbreeding really only becomes a problem after 3 or 4 generations. Even then that’s for homozygous siblings. We’re talking about a small chance of having heterozygous siblings mating and conceiving. The probability for genetic inbreeding is absurdly low. In fact, there are many places around the world where heterozygous siblings DO conceive on a regular basis with very little issues. You don’t need over-reactive regulations for this.
