I am so thankful to the people who donate blood, it’s such a simple thing to do but it saves people’s lives. I was diagnosed with Leukemia a year ago and have gone through countless bags of blood, I’m now in remission and pretty much all good, but if it wasn’t for the people who donated all that blood I would have been dead 12 months ago. If you’re scared of needles, please don’t use that as a reason not to donate, the people needing blood are scared of losing their lives, it wont take you long and you will feel good for helping others.

I have a rare blood type (AB-).I was really young when I found out and I thought that it made me special. In fact, I use to dream that everyone with AB- blood type had dormant powers. Well, no superhuman powers emerged but my blood can still save lives.

A couple weeks ago, I donated blood at my high school (even though i dread the sight of my own veins) for two reasons: I heard there was a blood shortage and wanted to help, and my (gay) cousin wasn’t allowed to and he wanted me to donate in honor of him. Well afterwards, I sat down to eat a snack and I passed out and woke up to find doctors laying me down on a bed. Apparently, I was shaking and freaking out before I woke up. It was pretty crazy… and then i had to go to math class. 😛

I’ve been giving my blood 4 times a year ever since I turned 18, and I intend on doing so for as long as I can, for many reasons, but mostly because it’s fun to make people believe that I’m an heroin addict ^^

I won’t lie to you, it stings a little bit, but if the nurse is good, you shouldn’t feel any real pain, and otherwise not it’s completely painless, I just tend to faint if I stand up too fast, but the nurses won’t let you go until you’ve had a real meal, and also don’t forget to drink a lot of water, and only go if you feel good and healthy, but if you can, my advise is go, even once, you’ll feel really good afterwards, and you can freak people out with the needle mark, but that’s just cherry on the cake ^^ But if you’re scared or anything, do it with some friends, or your family, don’t go alone, make it fun ! 🙂

if it’s O+ it’s most commun, so most likely to be used, if it’s O- it’s one of the rarest, but also universal doner, so it’s imperative that you give it because, whilst you don’t need all of it, it’s what surgeons, and doctors use on all the john and jane doe whose blood type we don’t have time to check :), in any case, no matter what your blood type is, it’s always useful to give, because it really does make a difference it really can save someone, so go for it, and motivate as many people as you can 🙂

@Sisonx Xueidb If he worried too much about it potentially getting thrown away, it could easily demotivate him to donate. I’m a regular donor and won’t pretend I do enjoy the feeling of actually saving someone’s life. It’s a good feeling, donating blood is by far the most useful thing I do. So what that it makes me happy and proud of myself.

My little sister was in a minivan that was T-boned by a drunk driver going twice the speed limit. She had massive trauma to her head and torso. She was 11. She was given 7-8 units of blood and survived. She’s 16 now and fully recovered. If it weren’t for the small scars on her side, you’d never know anything even happened. My family will forever be indebted to blood donors everywhere!! :o)

I’m a med lab tech in a hospital and blood bank is my least favourite area to work in. I know how important it is but it can be stressful in some situations like a massive hemorrhage protocol or people with antibodies with critical low hemoglobin. Of course it seems this always happens late in the evening or the middle of the night!
